Synopsis: A storm at sea washes Betsy Bobbin and her pet mule Hank to the shores of the Rose Kingdom, where they meet the Shaggy Man, owner of the powerful Love Magnet. Betsy and Hank join Shaggy in his quest to find his long lost brother, captive of the terrible underground Metal Monarch. They meet Ozma the Rose Princess, Polychrome the Rainbow’s Daughter, and the copper clockwork man Tik-Tok. Queen Ann of Oogaboo and her army agree to assist Shaggy and Betsy by conquering the Metal Monarch.
The Love Magnet provokes amusing complications as characters fall in and out of love with each other. The task of finding and disenchanting Shaggy’s brother proves more troublesome than anyone expects.

Theatres with 250 or more seats will be charged a higher fee than that shown on this website. Fees will be based on seating capacity, ticket price, and other factors.

For individuals and student organizations, full payment of license fees is due two weeks from the date the license is issued.
For all other applicants, full payment of license fees is due two weeks prior to your first scheduled performance.
If you have received a license, you may submit payment online using a credit card via the payment link included in the license e-mail message. You may also send payment by check, money order, or cashier's check. We accept payment in U.S. funds only. Please do not send cash.
Production materials such as scripts and musical scores will be shipped once Hungry Tiger Press is in receipt of payment for these materials, including any applicable shipping and handling.

Please be aware that certain restrictions may apply, and there is always the possibility that the performance rights may not be available when you want them.
Once we have received your request, we will determine if the performance rights are available in your area for the dates you have requested.

FAQ
Is my theatre considered “professional” or “nonprofessional?”
Theaters are considered for professional licenses if they employ members of Actors Equity Association, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and/or other similar unions and guilds. If you are using non-union personnel for your production, please fill out the nonprofessional application.
What does “restricted” mean?
The Tik-Tok Man of Oz has the potential of being restricted, even if it hasn’t been produced in your area for years. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to foresee specific restrictions. The only way to receive approval for a production is by submitting an application in writing. We highly suggest that you apply for a license as soon as you become interested in The Tik-Tok Man of Oz and that you wait to receive written approval from us before spending any time or money on mounting your production.
Do restrictions apply to high schools, colleges, and community theatres?
While you may believe your amateur production poses no threat to any other production, restrictions are based on the request of outside parties, many of whom pay high license fees for the privilege of rights exclusivity. Restrictions are never set arbitrarily and we don't enjoy denying applications, but there are times when performance rights are simply not available to your group.
How long does it take to get permission?
Most applications will receive immediate licenses by e-mail. However, your application may require individual review. For all applications that require review, you will receive an answer within 3–4 weeks, either approving or denying your request. To ensure fastest service, please submit your application online using our Nonprofessional or Professional applications. (See above for how to determine whether your theater is professional or nonprofessional.)
Can I apply for permission over the phone?
No, we must receive your application in writing via e-mail. Please use the forms on our website. None of our plays may be produced without our written authorization being sent to you in return.
I’m interested in producing The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, but I don’t want to commit until I know how much it will cost. How can I obtain a quote without applying for a license?
Submitting a licensing application does not commit you and does not require payment upfront. Once you have submitted a license application, you may cancel if you decide not to move forward with your production.
Because our performance fees are based on your production details, filling out and submitting a license request is the only way to receive a formal quote.
I'm an actor. Do I need to apply for permission to use a monologue or scene for an audition?
A closed audition is not a public performance, and as such you do not need to apply for a performance license. Permission must be secured and royalty fees paid for the use of monologues and scenes in all public performances, regardless of whether admission is charged. Public performances include student competitions, talent shows, and other “variety” or excerpted-work performances. Do I need to apply for permission to use a monologue or scene for a festival or a competition?
If you are performing The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, in whole or in part, at a festival or a competition, you are required to obtain a license.
Exception: Brief excerpts of less than ten minutes do not require a license or other permission when performed for a limited audience of adjudicators at festivals and competitions.
How do I cancel some or all of the performances on my license?
As soon as possible, you must notify Hungry Tiger Press in writing of any intent to cancel performance(s) or the entire production of a play. State the reason for the cancellation. E-mail your notification to orders@hungrytigerpress.com
Can I get a refund if I've already paid for the rights?
For cancelled performances, our refund policy is as follows:
(a) If you submit your cancellation request before the first performance, a full refund of the licensing fee for the cancelled performance(s) will be processed.
(b) If you submit your cancellation request after the first performance, but within 30 days after the final performance, a $25 cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund for the cancelled performance(s).
(c) If you submit your cancellation request later than 30 days after your final performance, your licensing fees will not be refunded.
Refunds will be processed in the same form as the original payment.
How many scripts and scores do I have to buy?
Scripts and scores are not included with your license. A performance set of scripts and scores for licensed productions may be purchased from Hungry Tiger Press at a discount.
For The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, the minimum number of scripts that must be purchased is 16. That includes one script for each speaking role, one script for the director, and one for the stage manager. Members of the chorus who do not have any speaking lines are not required to have a script. You may purchase additional scripts needed—such as for the musical director, designers, and technical crew—at a discounted cost when you place your original order. You should buy the number of scripts to meet your needs so you are not tempted to illegally photocopy any copyrighted material.
For The Tik-Tok Man of Oz, the minimum number of scores that must be purchased is 8. That includes one score for the director, one for the musical director, one for the pianist, one for the stage manager, and the rest for singers. You may purchase additional scores needed—such as for additional cast and chorus members, designers, and technical crew—at a discounted cost when you place your original order. You should buy the number of scores to meet your needs so you are not tempted to illegally photocopy any copyrighted material.
You may order your set of scripts and scores online. As discounted script and score orders are non-returnable, we suggest that you wait until you know your license request has been approved before purchasing scripts and scores.
May I photocopy a script or a score?
No. Photocopying scripts and scores without permission is stealing. If you duplicate a script or a score without permission, you are breaking federal and international copyright law. Per federal copyright law, no part of the script and score may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form without the prior written permission of the copyright holder.
Anyone found in violation may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In addition, Hungry Tiger Press reserves the right to assess an infringement penalty up to ten times the original cost owed for photocopying or reproducing a script without permission.

For all other applicants, full payment of license fees is due two weeks prior to your first scheduled performance.
Payment of a license fee and receiving performance rights means that you have permission to use and perform The Tik-Tok Man of Oz. The fee is due whether or not you choose to charge admission. The fee is due whether or not you are a school, church, or other non-profit organization.

Do I have to pay a license fee if I’m not charging admission?
Yes. Payment of a license fee and receiving performance rights means that you have permission to use and perform The Tik-Tok Man of Oz. The fee is due whether or not you choose to charge admission. The fee is due whether or not you are a school, church, or other non-profit organization.
Do I have to pay a license fee if I’m performing a play for competition?
License fees are waived for performance of monologues, excerpts, or cuttings lasting less than 10 minutes at adjudicated contests or festivals. We welcome these selections and do not require you to get permission in advance as long as you’ve purchased a script for each cast member involved.
All other performances require that a license fee be paid at least one week prior to the competition. We will consider fee reductions for performances of less than the entire play on a case-by-case basis. We can provide a performance license as proof of your payment upon request.
If I’m not performing the play, do I have to pay a license fee?
A license fee is due any time all or part of a play is performed in front of any size audience, whether or not admission is charged. This includes school assemblies and audience-attended “dress rehearsals.” If no audience of any size watches your play, no license fee is due.
What do I do if I need to change the number of performances, the venue, or the ticket prices of my production?
To request any change or modification to your license, please contact Hungry Tiger Press at orders@hungrytigerpress.com as soon as possible. Changes to the number of performances, venue, or ticket prices may change the total license fees due. We will adjust your license contract or invoice accordingly.
Please note that any additions to the number of performances may require additional clearance and approval is not guaranteed.
Can I cut, edit, or change the play in any way?
We approve changes to the script and score on a case-by-case basis. Before your production begins, please e-mail Hungry Tiger Press at orders@hungrytigerpress.com with an itemized list that clearly communicates your intended cuts. Be as specific as possible.
The typical sort of changes we will easily approve include changing the gender of a character to fit your cast needs or adding in local references of names or geographic locations to add humor. Adding or cutting lines to accommodate your time constraints is also possible, as long as it does not change the plot or intent of the play in any way.
Typical changes that are not allowed include changing the title of the play, changing the order of the scenes, and adding songs to the show.
All changes must be approved by Hungry Tiger Press in writing before your production. As a reminder, it is a violation of federal copyright law to make any changes to The Tik-Tok Man of Oz for the purposes of production without first obtaining written permission from Hungry Tiger Press. Under no circumstances does making changes to the script exempt you from paying full license fees and properly crediting the playwright(s) and Hungry Tiger Press.
Can I cut the optional scenes in The Tik-Tok Man of Oz?
Two clearly indicated optional scenes and songs are included in the script and score of The Tik-Tok Man of Oz. Whether to include these is your decision. These two optional scenes are the only changes that may be made to the show without written approval.
Do I have to follow the stage directions in the script and score?
You are not necessarily bound to exact stage directions, as long as the author’s intent is not compromised.
Can I add music to The Tik-Tok Man of Oz?
Absolutely not!
Can I use the artwork on the cover of the script and the score for my advertisements/programs?
The artwork used on the cover of the script and the score is available for use in advertising and programs. Please e-mail Hungry Tiger Press at orders@hungrytigerpress.com with a list of your intended uses—advertisements, poster, program cover—and we will e-mail you a license and the requested fee. Upon payment of the fee, digital files of the artwork will be sent to you.
If you choose, you may create your own artwork for your production.
May I record the performance?
Written permission must be obtained for all audio and video recording requests, regardless of the purpose or reason for the proposed recording. Audience members may take photographs or record the show as a personal memento. All other uses of a recording require additional license fees. These instances include, but are not limited to, 1) making copies of a recording and distributing it to the entire cast, 2) posting a recording of more than 10 minutes of a performance on a website [NOTE: each unique website on which the recording is posted requires one license fee], 3) showing your recording at a later date as a public performance, and 4) showing the performance on a local cable station. Please e-mail Hungry Tiger Press to make arrangements if any of these circumstances apply.
May I post an online video of a performance?
One clip no longer than ten minutes may be posted at no extra cost. For a longer segment, up to and including the entire performance, one additional license fee is required for each site on which you wish to post it, including your own group’s website. Please note, this license fee is in addition to your licensing fees for performances in front of live audiences.
May I livestream a performance?
Yes, licensing rights for livestreaming are available. For each performance livestreamed, one license fee is due in addition to the license fee for performing in front of a live audience. If the livestream is recorded and shown at an additional time or posted on a website, additional fees are due for each of these circumstances.
